1. OVERVIEW
Surge arresters are the foundation for insulating various electrical equipment (transformers, reactors, capacitors, generators, motors, PTs, CTs, circuit breakers, contactors, and all other medium and high voltage electrical equipment) in power systems. The protective performance of surge arresters determines the insulation indicators (such as short-time power frequency withstand voltage, lightning impulse withstand voltage, and operating impulse withstand voltage) of all electrical equipment in the power system. Metal oxide surge arresters (referred to as MOA) are the most advanced products among conventional surge arresters. The core working component is made of multi-metal oxide powder, mainly zinc oxide, which is sintered to have excellent nonlinear volt-ampere characteristics, fast response to steep waves, and high current carrying capacity.

2. PURPOSE AND USAGE
MOA products are used in AC power generation, transmission, transformation, and distribution systems with voltages up to 220kv. They are used to limit the amplitude of lightning and internally generated overvoltages to the specified level, serving as essential equipment for the insulation coordination of the entire system. However, this product cannot be used to limit resonance overvoltages, as other methods are required for system detuning. MOA products is designed to protect the insulation of AC power transmission and transformation equipment from lightning overvoltage and operational overvoltage damage. Applicable to transformers, transmission lines, distribution panels, switchgear, power measurement boxes, vacuum switches, shunt compensation capacitors, rotating motors and semiconductor devices, etc. Overvoltage protection.

3. GENERAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Ambient temperature: not higher than +40ºC, not lower than -40ºC;
Altitude: not exceeding 2000m; Power frequency: 50±2Hz; 60±2Hz;
Seismic intensity: 7 degrees and below;
Maximum wind speed: 35m/s;
Maintenance-free conditions: moderate pollution and below;
Gapless products operate continuously at a power frequency voltage not exceeding the continuous operating voltage of MOA;
Products with gaps are installed at a point where the power frequency voltage does not exceed the rated voltage of MOA.


4. INSTALLATION METHOD
Before installation, verify that the model of the MOA product matches the intended usage location and clean the surface of the product. For MOA products with a rated voltage below 25KV, they should be vertically fixed on the outer casing or dedicated bracket of the protected equipment. Use a multi-strand flexible wire with a cross-sectional area of not less than 10mm² to connect the terminal of the MOA to the phase line (busbar). Connect the terminal of the MOA to the ground wire (grounding resistance should not exceed 10Ω). For MOA products with a rated voltage of 42kV and below, use a multi-strand flexible wire with a cross-sectional area of not less than 16mm² for connection. First, fix the base on the pedestal, then vertically install the surge arrester unit in sequence, and connect the wiring as mentioned above. If a counter needs to be installed, it should be connected in series with the low voltage of the MOA. If a disconnector needs to be installed, it should be connected in series with the MOA. For line-type surge arresters, they are of the suspension type, and the installation should avoid the surge arrester bearing the line tension. Other precautions should be negotiated between the supplier and the buyer.
